Would you like to make the most wonderful hat? Come and join The Magician’s Wardrobe on a two day workshop, learning to hand felt a hat from wool

 

You will have the opportunity to create either a trilby style hat or a short topper. The finished hat is of course yours to keep forever or give as a gift!

 

This is *not* a traditional millinery class and my technique does not involve hatblocks, apart from very briefly; the shape of each hat is unique to the maker and entirely created by hand. You will be learning in detail an original design which has been evolved over many years.

Some basic knowledge of felt making is advised as this is a masterclass in creating a hand felted wool hat, a physically demanding yet highly rewarding process.

Working with hand dyed merino wool and teeswater fleece curls, you will learn about template design, laying out colours, felting in curls, hand fulling and shaping the felt, and professional finishing techniques.

​

Each student chooses 3 or 4 colours of my hand dyed wools, pre-prepared into drum carded batts. A selection of other colours will also be available to play with on the day, plus heaps of colourful fleece curls and firestar sparkle! Handmade wooden button is included (or you can bring your own).

 

You can expect 12 hours of workshop, 6 hours per day. You will need to wear loose light clothing, and have short sleeves. Please bring an apron as you will get wet!
